The London Eye, formerly known as the Millennium Wheel, is an experience like no other in London. It provides the best views of the city of London. At night, Bid Bend and the Parliament are lit up and it is truly a sight to see!
The London Eye is open from 10am until 8pm and offers several flight options. Passengers can choose to go on a champagne flight, in which one enjoys a glass of champagne in a more intimate setting and that costs 33 pounds for adults or they
can choose to do the standard flight, which costs 18.90 pounds for adults. It includes one full ride around in the Eye, and seeing sights such as the Tower of London, the River Thames, Buckingham Palace, and St. Paul’s Cathedral. It is located on the South Bank of the Thames next to the London aquarium. For more information on flight options and getting tickets online visit the official London Eye website: http://www.londoneye.com/Default.aspx.
The Eye is made up of 32 egg capsules, which can carry up to 25 people. Passengers are free to walk around the capsule getting a panoramic view of the city. A team of architects, David Marks, Julia Barfield, Malcolm Cook, and several others originally designed the Eye. The construction process included floating sections of the wheel up the Thames and assembling laying flat. It was then slowly lifted into its upright position. Finally, on March 8, 2009, the Eye was opened to the public under Tony Blair’s administration.
